INSIDE SUDAN WAR - AUGUST 2024
Since April 15, 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in chaos. A nation whose youth had fought tirelessly since the 2019 revolution for freedom, justice, and an end to military rule saw its future—and that of the entire country—plunge into darkness in an instant. War erupted in the heart of the capital, Khartoum, pitting the Sudanese army against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Violent clashes, along with acts of torture, rape, and mass killings committed by both sides, have triggered the worst humanitarian crisis in recent memory according to the UN, displacing over 12 million people and claiming 150,000 lives. In Darfur, the specter of another genocide is looming over non-Arab populations, while a man-made famine has been declared in the ZamZam refugee camp.
Despite the magnitude of the catastrophe, Sudan has received little attention from the international community or the media.
In a year and a half of conflict, the Sudanese population has faced countless horrors. Yet, this war is not the people’s war—it is a power struggle between generals.
This series serves as a reminder that Sudan’s future matters and that the international community cannot turn away from what has become the worst humanitarian disaster of our time.
